The University Meadows project consisted of the rehabilitation of an existing 53 unit apartment space. Located at 4500 Trumbull in Detriot, the two-story, 24,183 square foot project had a budget of $3,000,000. Construction on University Meadows began in February 2020.
University Meadows is a multi-unit apartment space for lower-income able-bodied senior citizens. City of Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan included this project in his State of the City address emphasizing the importance of affordable housing in Detroit. Braun Construction Group also installed solar panels to ease electrical use within the building.
Braun Construction Group faced challenges in the phases that required moving residents into temporary units. By coordinating with facility management, the team was able to move them back to their original units once they completed the work.
They also faced challenges with existing conditions that were not a part of the original scope of work. After being on-site for about two weeks, the Stay Home Stay Safe order went into effect, which stopped all construction activities.
The University Meadows project wrapped up in late April of 2021.
