Milestones Early Learning

Apr 11, 2022 | Member Project Spotlight

The Milestones Early Learning project, recently completed by CD Barnes, will give families in the community new childcare options.

CD Barnes Construction began work on the Milestones Early Learning project in March of 2021. With a $2.1 million budget, the 12,359 square foot structure was completed in August of 2021.

The state-of-the-art facility was designed with classrooms that are spacious, creative, and welcoming that provide a fun atmosphere for children of all ages.

Safety is a top priority for Milestones, therefore the facility was designed with the latest safety and security systems, including facial recognition software, ballistic film on windows and glass, a voice fire alarm, and a playground featuring alarmed gates at entry and exit points.

CD Barnes faced supply chain issues including procuring cabinets and aluminum fencing, however subcontractors JB Builders, Woodsmith’s Custom Millwork, and Cedar Springs Fencing came to the table with creative ideas and good attitudes to keep the project on schedule, despite the material delays.

Faced with a few challenges out of their control, Kenowa Plumbing tackled any issue that surfaced head-on with a positive attitude and chose to focus on the solutions rather than the problems.

The CD Barnes team said, “their (Kenowa Plumbing’s) continued dedication to solving problems and maintaining the schedule was a key factor in the success of this project.”

To make the job easier, CD Barnes used insulated Zip Sheathing and associated products to streamline maintaining the exterior finish process, despite delays. Eco-friendly adhesives were used on this project, and the utilization of panelized walls through Standale Lumber cut down significantly on waste onsite compared to typical stick framing.

This project was a repeat client of CD Barnes, their seventh project with Milestones, which has allowed both teams to build trust and foster a great relationship.

“Milestones has been a CD Barnes Construction client for over ten years, having partnered together on numerous projects throughout West Michigan,” mentioned the CD Barnes team.

Conveniently located on the border of Wyoming and Grandville at M-6 and Wilson Avenue, this new childcare center is ideally poised for families living in both communities.

The Milestones Early Learning project will benefit families in the community who need childcare, as well as provide jobs for people who live in the local community.
