In July of 2017, the Builders Exchange of Michigan began reporting on the proposed new 41-A District Court Building for Shelby Township. The project consisted of holding cells, office space, and courtrooms to accommodate the growing court requirements and provide a quality workspace for the court employees. Bernco, Inc. was awarded the role of Construction Manager and started construction in March 2018.
The 20,000 square foot single-story building sits on a five-acre site in Shelby Township. The entire project took about a year to complete. The new district court building remained on budget and cost around $5.2 million.
While not LEED-certified, Bernco used all eco-friendly materials. Bio-friendly gardens were established in the drainage swales through the property, which helps guide the water away from the building, provide direct watering to plantlife, and prevent flooding. This highly successful project was the result of Bernco, Anderson, Eckstein & Westrick, Inc., and the Court Administrator’s and subcontractor’s dedication to complete the project on time and budget.
