RENOVATION OF A HISTORIC PLANT FOR MULTIFAMILY HOUSING / Project ID 2023-0788
Plans for this $27 million project include renovation of the 96,560 square foot former plant for 92 loft apartment units. Plans also include demolition of the masonry wing and a one-story addition.
MASSIVE SCALE HOSPITAL TOWER / Project ID 2023-072F
Construction on this $1.8 billion tower is slated to begin in 2024. Plans include all private rooms, a large emergency department, and a skywalk and a series of tunnels to connect the new 1 million square foot tower to the existing hospital.
MULTIFAMILY WORKFORCE HOUSING / Project ID 2023-0860
Planned amenities for this 260-unit development include: a pool, a fitness center, a business center, detached garages for rent, a playground, a dog park, a covered pavilion with grills and a picnic area, and an outdoor pool. Bidding is planned to begin during quarter three of this year.
MASSIVE CAR PARTS MANUFACTURING FACILITY / Project ID 2023-0819
Plans call for the renovation of a 975,000 square foot facility. This $216 million project will begin late this year or early in 2024.
LIBRARY EXPANSION / Project ID’s 2018-26E5 and 2018-26E5-A
Builders Exchange has been reporting on these plans for expansion since 2018. A space needs study was completed in January of 2019. It was determined that an expansion of 15,000 square feet will be necessary and a Request of Proposals for architectural and engineering services is due on April 14.
NEW MASSIVE BATTERY PARK AS PART OF THE REDEVELOPMENT OF A MEGA SITE / Project ID’s 2023-084F; 2022-3220; 2022-3220-A
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Michigan Strategic Fund recently approved a total of $246 million in grants and loans to support the $3.5 billion plant. This 2.5 million square foot electric vehicle battery plant will be producing batteries by 2026.
NEW JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER / Project ID 2023-0B43
This estimated $50 million project is in the discussion stage only as it has not yet been funded and a location has not been determined. Plans for this 32 bed center include a wraparound service-type facility where behavioral, mental health, substance abuse, social work, and psychiatric services will be encompassed in one facility.
REDEVELOPMENT FOR A LIFE SCIENCES AND STEM INNOVATION FACILITY FOR A COMMUNITY COLLEGE / Project ID 2023-0E1A
Occupying 39,520 square feet, the current four-story building will be repurposed at an estimate of $8.5 million. Plans feature upgrading the outdated first floor lecture hall with modern videoconferencing technology to enhance distance and remote instruction and developing a Life Sciences and Information Technology Innovation Center on the second floor, including technology to bring in external lecturers and create a student collaboration center. Construction may begin in October.
