Builders Exchange of Michigan: What products/service(s) does your company provide for the construction industry?
Jeffrey Howard: Advantage Mechanical Group provides HVAC, plumbing, and pipefitting services on commercial projects. This includes new construction, light industrial, institution, and K-12 buildings.
BX: How did your company get its name?
JH: We wanted a name that was not typical and didn’t include our last names. We also thought about what would display first alphabetically in guides and directories. We wanted something that would make us stand out. We added ‘Group’ to the end, because we plan on expansion.
BX: What are your company’s short/long-term goals?
JH: Short-term, we plan to complete each project with integrity. We plan to deliver the projects we take on back to the owner as scheduled and per the plans and specifications. Long-term, we want customers to choose AMG with confidence and peace of mind that we’ll get the job done, time and time again.
BX: What has your project scheduled looked like so far in 2021?
JH: Since we are still in the start-up phase, we are just starting a lot of our projects for 2021. However, we’ve already met our annual goal in the first quarter regarding contracts.
BX: What’s the best business advice you’ve ever heard?
JH: Build your reputation on integrity. Never sacrifice morals for money.
BX: What core values does your company have that make you successful?
JH: Honesty and integrity in both our personal and professional lives.
BX: What’s your company’s biggest strength?
JH: We have worked together for 25 years and we love what we do. We trust and support one another as we serve our customer’s needs.
BX: How have the challenges of the past year impacted your company? How have you overcome them?
JH: We had just opened our doors in January of 2021, and have been fortunate to not feel the effects too much, other than a few missed days of work. What’s affected us most has been the price increases. We’ve received contracts and the material increases have soared without compensation.
BX: How has being a member of the Builder’s Exchange of Michigan benefitted your business?
JH: We are still learning the ins and outs but having the parameters set up with the alerts has helped me not have to look so hard for jobs that fit our specialty.
