The Builders Exchange of Michigan’s first-quarter events schedule is a wrap! Thank you to all our instructors, presenters, and attendees for making it a successful first quarter.
Every year, Builders Exchange of Michigan hosts a few different series of events during the first quarter of the year. From staples like our Legal Series Lunch & Learn to newer additions like Applied Estimating, we hope that members like you take advantage of the many free and discounted classes and trainings you have access to with your membership.
Legal Series Lunch & Learn
Bruce Courtade with Rhoades McKee PC once again presented on Lien Law, Surety Bonds, and Standard Contract Terms in January, February, and March respectively. With over 220 registered attendees between all three courses, our first 100% virtual Legal Series was a success! Attendees followed along with info packets provided by Rhoades McKee, asked relevant questions, and even won a few gift cards to local restaurants while answering trivia questions. Check our calendar and your email near the end of the year to find information about these classes in 2022, or sign up to be added to the waiting list to be emailed as soon as registration opens.
Winter Safety Series
While this year’s Winter Safety Series looked quite a bit different than last year’s in-person seminars, Builders Exchange of Michigan still had a great turnout for this winter’s seminars! In January, John David Gardiner with Bodman Law gave an update to OSHA and MIOSHA regulations, specifically those surrounding COVID-19 procedures for construction companies. Spencer Olsen and Denise Nieuhas with BHS Insurance presented in February on safeguarding your employees in the office and managing a remote workforce. Finally, in March, Jethro Roemer with 3M presented information to BX members about proper fall protection equipment and installation. Builders Exchange of Michigan will be offering a Summer Safety Series again this year as well. It will still be 100% virtual, and touch on topics like asbestos awareness, silica awareness, and other relevant industry safety topics. Registration for these seminars will be available soon!
Our first-ever virtual Applied Estimating course took place beginning in January and continued for eight weeks. Participants gained a well-rounded view of the estimating process. The instructor provided practical knowledge in a classroom setting on topics ranging from bid requirements to preparing a bid. This class will most likely be offered again in the first quarter of 2022, and registration information will be available at the end of 2021.
Two OSHA 10-Hour classes were offered in the first quarter of 2021, with one in January and one in February. These classes are split up between two days to allow participants a day in-between instruction. This training will come up again in the first quarter of 2022, and spots fill up quickly, so make sure to add your name to the growing waiting list!
