In July of 2017, the Builders Exchange of Michigan began reporting on the proposed new 41-A District Court Building for Shelby Township. The project consisted of holding cells, office space, and courtrooms to accommodate the growing court requirements and provide a quality workspace for the court employees. Bernco, Inc. was awarded the job and started construction in March 2018.
The 20,000 square foot single-story building sits on a five-acre site in Shelby Township and took about a year to complete. The new district court building cost around $5.2 million.
While not LEED-certified, Bernco used all eco-friendly materials and bio-friendly gardens were established in the drainage swales through the property. This highly successful project was the result of Bernco, Anderson, Eckstein & Westrick, Inc., and the Court Administrator’s and subcontractor’s dedication to complete the project on time and budget.
