Powering Michigan

April 10, 2019

On Wednesday, January 23, county planners approved 1,245 acres of rural land to be used for a massive solar farm, which could be the biggest source of sustainable power generation in Michigan so far. The solar farm is expected to generate up to 239 MW, tripling Michigan’s current installed solar capacity. This much energy could be enough to power around 35,000 average Michigan homes.

Construction could potentially begin as soon as the end of 2019, putting the solar farm in operation by 2020. This project could bring hundreds of construction jobs, as well as additional economic development to Shiawassee County.

The Builders Exchange of Michigan began reporting on this project over six months ago and will continue to update it as more details unfold! You can track this planning project by searching for project ID 2018-2BFD in our online planroom!
